John D. Nerem

John was born in Marshalltown and raised in Indianola with 3 siblings. He graduated from Simpson

College in 1978. While in college, he worked a year for Farm Bureau and had the opportunity to buy 1 of

3 different businesses after graduation. He chose Boone because of the presumed opportunities and in

1978, he bought out Joe Bohlen and renamed the business Bohlen & Associates; an established real estate

and insurance business. John started with 2 employees and through the years, has added numerous

associates and agents including his brother, his son and his nephew. John has always emphasized the

importance of honesty, knowledge and team work and has continued to run his business by working

together to achieve professional success for the entire office.

John and his wife, Jeri, raised their 3 sons, Nate, Nick and Neil in Boone, staying extremely involved and

busy coaching baseball, wrestling, flag football and basketball throughout the years all while growing

their business. Their son Nate, having been interested in the family business and working some through

high school, came back to Boone after obtaining his college degree and spending 5 years working for an

insurance company to join John and his team in 2006. John has also served on many civic boards and

church committees throughout the years as well as dedicating 12 years on the Boone Community School

Board.

To say John is a proud father and grandfather would be an understatement! Listening to John talk about

his family, it is undeniable how proud he is of all of them and how much he enjoys spending his time with

them... whether that is at work, family gatherings or watching and supporting one of the many

extracurricular activities his 6 grandchildren are involved in. John is usually able to squeeze in a couple of

fishing trips a year as well; enjoying the great outdoors with family & friends.
